Dr. Volpi discusses Geriatric Research and Medicine at UTMB. Dr. Elena Volpi, MD, PhD, is the Daisy Emery Allen Distinguished Chair in Geriatric Medicine, Professor in the Departments of Internal Medicine, and Nutrition and Metabolism, director of the Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center and the Associate Director of the Institute for Translational Sciences at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. Dr. Volpi leads a research program funded by several grants from the National Institutes of Health, which focuses on finding why we lose muscle and strength with aging, and how we can improve physical function in older persons. Dr. Volpi also practices geriatrics and directs the Diabetes Clinic for Seniors of the Geriatrics Division at the UTMB Multispecialty Center in League City.
